User Research Overview

Every aspect of the design of the Futurenav project suite was informed by research. From product features and functionality, to ease of use and the overall look and feel of the visual design.

As the UI designer I worked closely with the UX researcher to implement her findings in an iterative fashion throughout the mid and hi-fi design phases of the project.

Research Conducted:

-
Multiple rounds of iterative unmoderated usability testing via Userzoom of all data dashboards and assessments.

-
Multiple rounds of user interviews with HR recruiters, talent managers and line managers.

-
Moderated usability testing with employee users.

-
Beta testing with the coded versions.

-
In total, we talked to over 124 users from a variety of disciplines, backgrounds and companies.

My Role

I was the Lead UX/UI designer on the Futurenav project, and was responsible for designing all of the assessment and data screens you see here. I worked with a cross-functional team consisting of UX researchers, AI engineers, assessment designers, a team of developers, and a product owner. Since this was a go-to-market product, I also worked closely with our branding, marketing and sales departments as well.

The Data Dashboards
Skillprint Personal Dashboard

The Skillprint Personal Employee Dashboard
This is the main dashboard for the employee. We use AI technology to compile and summarize all assessment data we've gathered on them and provide a summary analysis and skill profile on the tiles within this page.

In addition to skills summary information, we leverage our AI technology to offer suggestions for job opportunities within the company, as well as recommendations around trainings, mentorships or short term projects.
A career exploration tool allows users to create linear and lateral career paths. Our AI helps them identify skills gaps they might have in moving to new positions and provides them with training opportunities to address these gaps.

HR Talent Acquisition Dashboard

The HR Talent Acquisition Dashboard
Extensive user testing with HR recruiters was conducted with the goal of designing a solution to their most common pain points. Recruiters at large companies need a way to intelligently sort through large quantities of applicants for available positions within the company.
While there is far more to this product than is displayed here, this dashboard allows the recruiter the ability to view the job applicant's fit to open positions across all departments within the company.
In addition, they can drill down to view the applicant pool for a particular position and drill into a specific applicant to see how their skill profile matches any available position within the company.

HR Talent Management Dashboard

The HR Talent Management Dashboard
Extensive user research was conducted with HR talent managers to understand what product features would best support them in their workflow and address some of their most common pain points.

Using AI to interpret our assessment data and matching them to a predetermined benchmark for their position, the talent manager can view the fit of all employees by department for their current positions. They can also see a detailed skill profile of the department's performance on each assessment.

In addition they can view performance data on the individual level and drill down into that individual to see a more detailed overview of their fit to their position and other potential positions within the company.

Lastly, training opportunities are offered on both the individual and department levels to help upskill employees for advancement within the company.

Line Manager Dashboard

The Line Manager Dashboard
The final data reporting product in the suite is for line managers. The Line Manager view allows the manager to view all individuals within their team and their fit to their current job based on our assessment results.

The manager can then drill down into an individual to see their performance profile, upskilling opportunities and internal job openings they might be good candidates for.

Suggested training opportunities for the manager's team are offered based on the skill profile of that team.

Open positions within the team are listed with a drill down to view a sorted list of potential applicants for the position.
The Adapt AI Assessment

The Apply Subtest
The Apply subtest is a short 15 minute modular test designed to evaluate an individual's AI literacy. It consists of an AI guided portion including the three activities you see here.
.png)
Activity 1
The first activity consists of a chatbot conversation where the user is asked questions about AI ethics and how to determine whether an AI generated response is legitimate.

Activity 2
In activity 2 the user is asked to use an AI text generator to create a document on employee engagement and asked to cite the sources used in the creation of the document. They work within a text generator and an editor to do this.

Activity 3
In this activity the user is asked to present their document to a group of fellow coworkers. We use MMAI to analyze speaking rate, fluency, eye contact, body posture, hand gestures etc. to assess verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
The Portfolio Overview Dashboard provides an overview of all the user's accounts in their portfolio.

Primary Navigation: To address the issue of the contextual navigation being hidden in the old version of the Investor platform we decided to move it to the primary navigation at the top of the page. The Portfolio, Accounts and Groups navigation categories allow the user to view their performance, balance, risk etc. from each of those three contexts.

Tile/Widget Concept: User testing of our existing Advisor product, which utilizes the tile concept revealed that users love this approach. They reported that it is a simple and intuitive method for grouping information within the dashboard.
Dashboard Configurability: This dashboard, as well as the Accounts and Account Groups Dashboards, are fully configurable by the user. The user has the ability to choose which tiles they want to display on each dashboard and hide the tiles they don't want. A list of their hidden tiles may be accessed by clicking the three dot dropdown in the header bar at the top of the page.
